Man...Magmar used to be a Basic Pokemon.  I miss those days.

Very nice job recreating this card; I especially like the background.  Was it hard remaking this with stitching?

Oh the days when Magmar, Electabuzz, Jynx, Scyther, and many more were just Basics... Good times.

Thank you, the Magamr card is my favourite so far, I enjoyed stitching the fiery background :D

It wasn't particularly hard, just time consuming. It's kept pretty simple since there's only 4 colours in each card, but they are fairly big (64x68 stitches) and they tend to be dominant in one colour which can take a while to do (like my Haunter card...), but once you bring in the others, you see it all come together and it just looks stunning.

I keep getting torn, there are so many projects catching my eye, and I can only stitch one thing at a time! That's the hardest part of all...

It really bums me out that these previously-rare and powerful Pokemon are just...normal these days.  They used to be all-stars that could headline an episode, but now they're just "meh."  At least Taurous is still a One-Hit-Wonder.

Wowzers.  That's a lot of stitches.  I can imagine stitching the dominant color can get very annoying given how much stitching and time it would take.  Glad to hear it starts to pick up once you get to the other colors though.

About how big are these stitchings when you're finished?

How do you feel about Magmortar and Electivire?

4.6" x 3.4" is the size of a finished Pokemon Card :) I love doing them.

Magmortar, unfortunately, looks kinda dumb to me.  The cannons and its general poses are pretty cool, but the rest of it looks like a big, fat clown to me.  I'm not big on Magby either.  Electivire, however, looks AWESOME and even Elekid isn't a bad Baby Form.  Even though I normally don't like adding evolutions to older Pokemon, I'd say Electabuzz actually benefited from it.

Awesome opossum; that's a lot bigger than the original drawings you're getting these stitches from, right?  Is it hard enlarging such small artwork?

I have to agree. I prefer Magmar to Electabuzz, but I don't like Magmortar very much. Electivire is just AWESOME!

Actually, if you think about it in pixels, the real pokemon cards are bigger. They have more detail to them. With the cross stitch, you would only be able to fit a certain amount of 'pixels' for detail. I didn't make the patterns myself, but I have huge respect for the person that did :iconmakibird-stitching: I just stitch them :)

In the grand scheme of things, do you miss the concept of 1-Stage Pokemon that are both rare and powerful?  Legends are pretty much scripted to show up and you can always save-scum to make sure you can catch them and Pseudo-Legendaries are kind of a pain in the neck since they take forever to level up.  These 1-Stagers, however, were always alluring to me.  To this day, I don't know how to catch a Magmar in the original games and even Scyther was impossible to catch without the tricky Rocket Corner.  You really had to think outside the box with these guys and the paid immediate dividends with their power; the show always painted them as mysterious badasses too.  I don't know if there are any more of these 1-Stagers left, but I really miss the concept if it is gone.

All things considered, you're fitting a lot of details into these cross-stitches.  And even if you didn't make the designs, you're executing them very well.

You say 1-Stagers, but as far as the cards go, its Basic, Stage 1, then Stage 2. I get what you mean though. Jynx, although it has a pre-form, is still a 1-Stager, as well as Snorlax, Tauros and Pinsir. I like those last two :) I always liked Scyther, and I remember when I first got the Silver game, I was so ecstatic to find a Scyther early on in the game, that I caught and kept it in my party :) I was then even happier when SoulSilver came out and I could have it following me :happybounce: As a Pokemon, I like Scizor. But not as the evolution of Scyther. I only ever evolve Scyther for the Pokedex, otherwise I kept it as it is.

I do miss them, in a way. They were unique, and some of the best and strongest Pokemon around, after the Starters and Legendaries. But then, that also makes it fitting that they should have a stage 2. They don't always look good, but they've still been granted it.

In the anime, one of my favourite episodes has always been when Magmar faces off against Charizard. That fight was AWESOME. And when we see a beaten up Scyther (that actually has the soul and pride of Vegeta) that Tracy catches. He was always squaring off against Charizard too.

I grew up with the 1st gen of Pokemon, so for me, they're always going to be my fondest ones, even though I like the Pokemon from the other Gens too.

Thank you

Awesome! Will you be trying any of the other pokemon card patterns from there?
Devi-Tiger Featured By Owner Apr 22, 2014  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
Absolutely! I can't decide which one to do next, that's the problem :) It's a toss up between 4, but I will be doing a lot more :D
silverdragoness Featured By Owner Apr 22, 2014  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I totally understand your predicament, I am working on the flareon one now and have three others after I will be having a hard time choosing from. I am hoping they make more patterns too ^_^
Devi-Tiger Featured By Owner Apr 23, 2014  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
Awesome! And I agree, Makibird doesn't release the patterns quickly enough lol Unfortunately, all of the patterns I've been eyeing up at the moment, I can't do because I'm missing colours... So I'm now looking for a different one to do while I wait to get more. Luckily, there's still plenty to choose from :D Good luck with your projects :)
